Darren's Restaurant Review

Quality dining and value combine in the casual meets upscale Darrens’ Restaurant,
an award-winning restaurant that specializes in mesquite grilled steaks, fresh
seafood, and some surprisingly exotic dishes. Located in Manhattan Beach,
Darrens' upscale lounge trickles a full-bar including an extensive
wine list and seasonal specialty cocktails.

   Champagne                                          Long Island Ice tea

Darren’s also has a special Happy Hour and Bar Menu perfect for enjoying while watching the game on their flat screen TV, or for intimate weekend dinners; yet Darrens is equally inviting for a business lunch or larger groups. It proves
itself as a local favorite with exceptional service, food, and prices,
all converged in a tastefully adorned setting.

Beet Carpaccio

Shortly after being seated, our charming server Michelle brought us a delicious and light Duo Beet Carpaccio, Humbolt Fog Goat Cheese, Baby Hydro Watercress, Pomegranate Vinaigrette to begin our meal. It went perfectly with our
glasses of crisp Napa Valley Chardonnay.

Twin Dungeness Crab Cakes

Next, we sampled the Twin Dungeness Crab Cakes, on Cucumber Salad,
Tarragon Mustard Remoulade it was a masterpiece unto itself and, with a little Sauvignon Blanc, would have constituted a full meal for most people.

By the time our entrées were served we had practically eaten our fill, but had our gastronomic vigor renewed by the magnificent dishes that were placed before us.

Pacific Halibut Cheeks with White Cannellini Beans

The Pacific Halibut Cheeks White Cannellini Beans, Morel Mushrooms, Corn, Pancetta Succotash, Baby Carrots was a real winner, and delightfully balanced.

Wild Mushroom Gnocchi

We also enjoyed one of the specialties of the house: Wild Mushroom
Gnocchi Hand made Potato Gnocchi, Baby Artichoke Comfit,
Mixed Wild Mushrooms, and Truffle Cream Sauce.

Pan Seared Pork Chop

Our last entrée was the Pan Seared Pork Chop, Honey Glazed
Sweet Potatoes, Mustard Greens, Prune Bordelaise Sauce. This thick
and tender cut was bursting with flavor and truly a meat lover’s delight.
It was the elemental mix of comfort food and haute cuisine.

Vintage Port (Graham's 1970)

Darren personally delivered our magnificent Dessert Wine the Port,
Graham, Vintage 1970, a perfect way to finish our meal, and
among many choices for amazing desserts.

Apple Crostata

Michelle surprised us with their specialty; the Apple Crostata Thai Cinnamon Infused Crème Anglaise, Walnut Crumb Pieces, Vanilla Gelato; although it was a bit difficult for us to fully appreciate at this point in our sumptuous repast. This was an outstanding dessert that I would say, the best one we have ever tried in a long time. My guest and I sat back for a moment to let our meals digest while enjoying this pleasant lounge.

Whether it's a birthday celebration, business lunch or an intimate dinner, Darrens'
is without a doubt, the place to go when you are looking for fine food,
attentive service and dependable value.

Chef Darren Weiss, formerly owner of Café Catalina in Redondo Beach, is excited
to be back in the South Bay. Darren’s also has a special Happy Hour and Bar
Menu perfect for enjoying while watching the game on our flat screen
TV, and they also have a terrific heated outdoor patio.

Special thanks to Darren for this amazing dining
experience, and we will certainly return soon.
